Air Filter Q&A

What is nonwoven fabric?

Nonwoven fabric refers to a sheet-like material that is not woven, as the name suggests. It is a type of material that combines concepts from paper and felt with advanced technologies in organic and polymer chemistry. Depending on the application, various synthetic fibers and other materials can be combined to freely design physical and chemical properties. Japan Vilene’s air filters are made from nonwoven fabric.

What are the characteristics of nonwoven fabric filters?

Nonwoven filters have a porous structure. By combining fibers and adhesives, the pore size can be controlled and selected according to the application. They feature an optimal “density gradient” structure for air filtration, where the density increases from the air inlet side to the outlet side. This allows for low pressure loss, high filtration efficiency, and large dust-holding capacity. (Note: Some product types may not have a density gradient.)

How should I select an air filter?

Filter selection should consider the air conditioning system, operating conditions, and relevant regulations. Key factors include:

  1. Purpose of air purification
  2. Intake air volume and dust concentration
  3. Circulated air volume and dust concentration
  4. Room usage
  5. Fan capacity
  6. Filter performance
  7. Maintenance costs

Important performance indicators include pressure loss, efficiency, and service life. Evaluating these factors will help you select the optimal air filter.
